Great news! A long slender fish called an Orangethroat Pikeblenny (Chaenopsis alepidota) has been spotted all around Catalina Island. Information is limited on these fish and populations are more abundant south of Catalina. Several instructors are guessing that this “bloom of blennies” could be due to the warmer temperature of the water this season. The long and slender body of these blennies allow them to wiggle in and out of deserted worm tubes to help keep them protected from predators.
