Island Ecology Hike

A hike will give students the opportunity to explore the island and gain an appreciation for the terrestrial environment. Hiking exposes students to unique aspects of the island and allows them to learn about, as well as touch and see, the many plants, animals and insects that inhabit Catalina. Students will also learn about the geology and formation of Catalina Island, as well as its first human inhabitants.

This longer hike will give students an opportunity to explore the island and gain an appreciation of the environment. Hiking exposes students to unique island environments and allows them to learn about, as well as touch and see, the many plants, animals and insects that inhabit Catalina. The lifestyles of the Native Islanders that resided on Catalina will also be a topic of discussion.

Day Trip (Five day)

Five-day groups can kayak and/or hike to explore an adjacent part of the island. During this day-long excursion, the group will eat a picnic lunch, as well as snorkel or tide pool at the new location before returning to Cherry Cove for dinner.
